Firm History

Scott Garvin established Garvin Design Group in June of 2003 and crafted a vision to provide creative, client centered design solutions, along with partners Mark Timbes and Terry Buchmann. They have worked closely together for over 20 years and have developed a dynamic, award winning firm. In 2014, they welcomed David Sickinger on as partner, having been a critical member of the GDG team since 2004. They have worked closely with construction professionals to develop more strategic and efficient project delivery methods, achieving greater value and reduced time frames for their clients. This collaborative approach has been successful, resulting in the design and management of more than $500,000,000 worth of projects throughout the region. This team of 12 professionals has been responsible for many award winning and notable projects in the area including Olympia Mills, 701 Whaley, Mast General Store, South Carolina Research Authority, USC's Honors College and Patterson Hall, Coastal Carolina's Arena/Recreation Center, Williams Brice Stadium Video Board, and the Peace Center for the Performing Arts. Since its inception, the firm has been located in the historic AIS Building at Lincoln & Gervais, which they renovated for their studio office as well as other office and retail tenants, including Starbucks.

Shortly after opening, Scott, Mark, and Terry were joined by a group of highly talented individuals. Their newest partner, David Sickinger, is a highly creative architect and manages a number of the firm's projects. He also leads the efforts in producing the firm's renderings and graphic materials. Kim Bendillo is a gifted interior designer that has worked with this team for over 20 years. Her interior design abilities are evident in many of the award winning projects she has overseen. Architect Steve Layne brings over 35 years of project management, construction administration, and historic renovation experience to the firm, and one of his areas of focus is construction administration for their larger projects. Becky Brantley, also a registered architect, manages projects as well and has a strong background in institutional work. Megan Craig and Andrew Rogerson are recently registered architects that bring young, creative talent and energy to this dynamic firm. Business Manager, Dianne Lance, brings more than 18 years of experience in finance and business management, and Office Manager Rebecca Shadwell contributes a strong background in the public relations field.

To celebrate their 10th year in business, Garvin Design Group has rebranded its corporate identity. The new brand reinforces the unique and dynamic nature of the firm, as well as their commitment to providing collaborative, creative design solutions. Over 10 years, they have expanded their broad expertise in architecture, planning, and interior design into more focused areas of consulting, including Historic Preservation Services, Feasibility Studies, and Construction Consulting, provided through strategic alliances with contractors.
