Meredith Lenti joins GDG after having completed her Bachelor's in Architecture at Clemson University. She will work with the team for a year or two (or as long as we can hold on to her) until she goes back to grad school. Chelsea has already begun her graduate education and will be working with Garvin Design Group for the summer before returning in the fall to complete her final year in the Master of Architecture program at Clemson.

Garvin Design Group was awarded the Honor Award for thier desgin of the Peace Center Additions & Renovations in Greenville, SC. The design awards gala was held at the newly completed Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. Jury chair Steven D. Schuster, FAIA was on-hand to speak and present the awards.

Garvin Design Group took home 4 awards at the annual AIA state conference. Patterson hall received 3 awards: a Design Honor Award, the COTE (Committee on the Environment) Honor Award, and an Adaptive Reuse/Renovation Merit Award. The Peace Center Renovations and Additions won a Design Merit Award also. This year's conference and awards gala was held at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Garvin Design Group announces that David Sickinger AIA, LEED AP has been made corporate partner of the firm, joining Scott Garvin, Mark Timbes, and Terry Buchmann. A native of Greenville, David joined the firm in 2004. Now a registered architect, David has been a the lead designer and project architect on many of the firm's notable projects, including BDI Pharma's Corporate Headquarters, SCRA's Columbia Innovation Center, the renovation and expansion of USC's Patterson Hall and Women's Quad Residence Halls, and the new Williams Brice Stadium Video Board. He became a LEED Accredited Professional in 2008, and currently serves as the Past President of the Greater Columbia Section of the American Institute of Architects, having served as the President in 2012 and 2013.

The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation selected the Olympia and Granby Mills for a 2013 South Carolina Preservation Honor Award. The award was presented to Garvin Design Group and PMC Properties at the State House by Governor Nikki Haley. Garvin Design Group was represented by partners Scott Garvin, Terry Buchmann; Mark Timbes and Ron Caplan represented PMC Properties of Philadelphia.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Greater Columbia Section held their biennial design awards gala on November 15, 2012 at IT-ology. Submissions were judged by an independent jury, selected by the AIA Greater Columbia Board of Directors, and awards presented by David Sickinger, President and Design Awards Chair, and Asheley Scott, Past-President, to AIA Member Firms and Architects for projects which highlighted exceptional design. Garvin Design Group received a Merit Award for the renovation of Mast General Store.
The 2012 Jury, chaired by architect Frank Harmon, described the project as a “very sympathetic labor of love for the architect...This project saves an aging department store and sets an example from which others can learn – an important contribution to restoring our downtown districts. And as one juror remarked, ‘There's something to be said for candy and flannel by the pound.’”

Rebecca Shadwell has joined Garvin Design Group as Office Manager. Rebecca completed her Bachelors of Arts in English at the University of South Carolina in 2008. She continued on to receive her Masters in Composition and Rhetoric at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Mast General Store received two awards at the annual Design Award Gala presented by the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architect (AIA). Mast took home an Honor Award in the Historic Preservation-Adaptive Reuse category, as well an Honor Award from the Brick Industry Southeast Region. The awards were presented at the annual AIA SC Design Awards Gala at the historic Riviera Theatre in Charleston, S.C.

At the fifth annual SustainSC event the USGBC South Carolina Chapter held its Leadership awards luncheon, where Patterson Hall received the Exemplary Project Award, which presented to a project characterized by unique environmental, social and economic success, as well as the ability to inspire others. Scott Garvin from Garvin Design Group and Gene Luna from USC were on hand to accept the award.

Andrew Rogerson, Jon Michael Williamson, and Megan Craig have joined Garvin Design Group as intern architects. Andrew obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University in 2008 and his Master’s degree the University of Oregon in 2012 with a focus in sustainable urbanism. Jon Michael graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2007 and received his Master of Architecture degree from Clemson University in May of 2012. Megan graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2008 and a Master of Architecture degree in 2012, where she won the award for most outstanding graduate design project.
