Center for Creative Inquiry
The SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics, located in Hartsville, SC, plans to expand its current residential campus to include a new 52,000-sf engineering and outreach-focused facility, aptly named the Center for Creative Inquiry. The new learning center will include multiple bio-chemistry and engineering/physics labs, multimedia classroom space, distance learning labs, a maker-space suite, faculty offices, and a 600-seat auditorium. The school envisions the new Center as a forward-thinking, innovative facility that will host outreach programs from youth science camps to community programs to state-wide conferences, while also serving as an additional asset to the 288 residential students that reside on campus for their junior and senior high-school years. Key programming initiatives focus on creating open, flexible spaces that can adjust to differing group needs, dynamic circulation and collaboration zones, the use of sustainable and innovative finishes, and the infusion of natural daylight deep into the interior. The expressed desire for the building’s image is to set a new, modern tone on the existing campus to signify the future of the SCGSSM within the state and beyond.
