Advent United Methodist
“Buildings framed in Green” remarked one of the IMAGE & FUNCTION workshop participants during a dialogue regarding the feel of the Advent campus. A building of “Casual Elegance” was the conviction of another participant. The initial design workshop series established clear principles for the design of this new Sanctuary for seating of 400 people for a growing congregation outside of Greenville, South Carolina. The space is celebrated with ever changing natural light entering from the side aisles, two roof-top dormers above the transepts, and the large high focal-opening above the pulpit. The porous nature of the perimeter walls allows for the surrounding courtyards to penetrate the interior thereby enhancing the worship experience in the spirit described above. These same openings allow the church to evolve into a communal beacon at night as it glows from within.
