summer interns 2022 group photo

Garvin Design Group recently welcomed five summer interns to its studio this May. Clemson University School of Architecture graduate students Alexandra Masters, Nicole Coker, Edgar Alatorre, and Michael Caraballo join the firm as architectural interns. University of Mississippi Business major Kate Hughes comes aboard for an internship in marketing. This is the largest cohort of summer interns Garvin Design Group has ever had. The group includes students from across the Southeast.

Architectural Interns

Alexandra Masters is a native of Columbia. She earned her undergraduate degree in art history, business, and environmental studies from the University of South Carolina. Alexandra considers architecture the perfect marriage of creativity and technicality. She aims to incorporate both skillsets in her future career.

Nicole Coker continues a series of seasonal internships she began with Garvin Design Group in 2019. Nicole Coker grew up in St. Matthews and earned her undergraduate degree from Clemson University. She particularly enjoys community-based design.

Edgar Alatorre was born and raised in Florida and earned his undergraduate degree in architecture at the University of Florida. Edgar previously interned at Tekton Architecture in Gainesville, Florida.

Michael Caraballo is originally from Lexington and earned an associate degree in architecture from Midlands Technical College and a Bachelor of Architecture from Clemson University. He has experience interning for other local architecture firms and enjoys art design and the problem-solving aspect of architecture.

Marketing Intern

Another Columbia native, Kate Hughes’ interest in advertising and branding inspired her to pursue a major in general business with an emphasis in marketing. She is a rising junior at the University of Mississippi. Her summer internship will give Kate experience in social media strategy, advertising and promotions, press relations, graphic design, data analytics, and business development.
