Peace Center

Additions & Renovations

Greenville, SC

Located in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, along the Reedy River, the Peace Center asked Garvin Design Group to redesign its current campus, lobbies, and educational facilities so as to promote its outreach programs and to ensure the Center’s overall design offers the most extraordinary cultural experience possible for both patrons and visitors alike. The focus areas include improved circulation and accessibility, improved merchandise and ticket sales support, reconfigured loading and site circulation, and the addition of a new Donor’s Pavilion and public lobby overlooking the Reedy River.

“A gift to the community, this project creates an exciting gateway to a reclaimed river by means of a few deft additions to a concert hall and its site. A glassy layer of circulation expands the congested existing lobby and introduces a welcoming transparency out toward the street. A new glass-enclosed lounge opens the interior of the building back toward the river. A new performance shall at the water’s edge creates the focus for that view. A new lighting and event infrastructure make the riverfront the place to be for public spectacle.”
