Fast casual restaurant Hendrix brings new life to 1649 Main Street. As the building’s first tenant post-rehabilitation, Hendrix worked with Garvin Design Group to create an upfit for the second level and rooftop that would at once honor the building’s past and infuse it with a modern sense of energy. Interior brickwork, ductwork, and heavy timber trusses remain exposed, recalling the building’s long history on Columbia’s Main Street. Modern suspended staircases provide access between floors without hindering open floor plans. A decking system installed on the building’s rooftop made outdoor seating possible, offering patrons views of the city’s skyline and Main Street below.
