Clemson Penley Golf Facility

Penley Golf Building and range renovations

Clemson University

Clemson, SC

Renovations to Clemson’s Golf facilities expanded and updated two existing buildings to accommodate the addition of the Women’s Golf program. Initially designed solely for Men’s Golf, the Penley Golf Clubhouse was renovated to create a locker room and players’ lounge for the women’s program. These renovations consolidated team spaces in one location for the first time. New wood panel wall finishes in the renovated spaces complement the facility’s existing accents, while a new paint scheme, upgraded lighting fixtures and furniture modernize the lower floor. Orange and gray graphic carpeting and a refreshed spiral staircase create a sense of energy, while custom graphics highlight the program’s successes and integrate important University brand elements. Locating the new women’s facilities in the Penley Clubhouse necessitated additional space allocation for displaced Golf program training amenities.  Spaces in the nearby R.W. Robinson Golf Training Center were repurposed and renovated to include a state-of-the-art putting lab, fitness/training room, and club repair shop. Dimmable linear LED fixtures coupled with retractable shades allow for controllable lighting conditions in the newly enclosed putting lab to allow for use of the computer-integrated putting system, while still connecting the indoor practice area to the adjacent driving range immediately outside.  On the exterior, a new extended roof canopy provides covered hitting bays with artificial turf and space heaters for year-round practice during inclement weather.
