Indoor Practice Facility

Coastal Carolina University

Conway, SC

The new Coastal Carolina University Indoor Practice Facility is designed to support national recruiting efforts, host multiple sports programs and community events, and anticipate future south endzone development at Brooks Stadium. The Coastal Carolina University Indoor Practice Facility’s program includes a full-size synthetic turf field, a coaches’ tower, a training room, video recording platforms, restrooms, and storage space. This state-of-the-art facility will enable Chanticleers to hone their skills year-round, regardless of the weather conditions outside.

The building’s siting honors its adjacency to Brooks Stadium and its frontage on University Boulevard and State Route 544.  Oriented east to west, the building’s main entry is in the center its north elevation overlooking University Boulevard and addressing Brooks Stadium across the street. New paved areas encircle the building’s northwest corner, providing on-site parking at the main entry and access from University Boulevard to the rear of the building which overlooks a retention pond. Building orientation and site plan anticipate future development to the north and east.

Building materials achieve Coastal’s goals for cost efficiency and connection to the wider Conway campus. Constructing the building in metal enabled the project team to keep building costs low while accommodating all the desired building program. The end gable roof creates ceilings high enough for special teams’ work. Field brick and cast stone accents and aluminum trellis systems reference the academic buildings on the Conway campus. Clerestory windows, garage bay doors, and double-height glazing maximize natural light indoors.

Garvin Design Group is partnered with national sports design firm HNTB on this project. Contract Construction is the project’s General Contractor.
