Granby Mill

Granby Mill

Columbia, SC

The comprehensive rehabilitation of two historic Columbia textile mills began with the revitalization of the 270,000 sf Granby Mill. Originally constructed in 1899, Granby Mill was transformed into 142 apartments with a mix of one-, two- and four-bedroom layouts. Each apartment includes an elevated sleeping loft, capitalizing on the building’s expansive historic window openings, reopened to restore the building’s 19th-century appearance. Common spaces are contained within a central spine on each floor, providing ample room for impromptu meetings and casual gatherings. Revitalization of the mill site also included the addition of a leisure complex that boasts a swimming pool and volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts. This project leveraged local, state, and federal historic tax credits (HTCs).
